What to do before starting a Diet

Before you start any programme on weight loss there are four things you need to consider before embarking on a lifestyle change. Obviously depending on your personal circumstance a Doctor should be considered for the normal checks on your health as some programmes may not be suitable, but the next four are things you can do to get the ball rolling.

Set a Goal - Important to record your current weight and measurements and take a picture. Once done set a realistic target weight you would like to achieve and work towards that goal.

Weight Loss Plan - Need to look at your food and drink consumption. Look at consuming more Vegetables, lean fish and poultry, less red meat. Also include more fruit and veg into your diet with less carbs. Also a minimum usage of processed and take away foods. Drinks looking at swapping fizzy drinks for smoothies or water. Sensible planning of all above can help.

Education - Research is the key, understand food and its components and what nutrients and calories you need each day. Understanding how to lose weight effectively with balanced eating and exercise. The best way is to embark on a detailed programme or buy books that explain what your body needs.

Bad Habits - Keep a diary of what you eat, identify weaknesses which can then be turned into creating a good habit. The common one is snacking in between meals, what can you snack on, what can you do to overturn this habit and move on.

As with any diet its about the mind set and a willingness and desire to change things. Its a gradual process, it took years to pile on weight, it can take a while to lose. One tip is never give up on your goal, anything is possible.

Good luck
